Tamil Nadu policemen's chivalry appreciated

Keralite trying to enter Karnataka via Tamil Nadu on a vehicle with K'taka registration was stopped near a tollgate on Madurai bypass.

Chennai: ‘Chivalry, dedication, sincerity and security of general citizens’ – these are the words used by a Bengaluru-based Malayali to describe Tamil Nadu police personnel in a Facebook post.

The post was about his experience during the Cauvery unrest when policemen from Tamil Nadu escorted Karnataka-registered vehicles around highways in the state to safely cross Tamil Nadu and enter Karnataka on the evening of September 17.

‘I shall never ever forget what happened today. The incident really touched me and my family with the exemplary display of chivalry, dedication, sincerity of the Tamil Nadu Police’ – said Joyal Bindu in his Facebook post, which garnered over 44,000 likes and about 21,000 shares within three days of his writing it.

‘After the Onam holidays, I was travelling back to Bengaluru from Kollam. I stopped at the tollgate over the Madurai bypass. A polite lady police constable of the Tamil Nadu Police, noticing my Karnataka registered car, advised me to park aside and said that I would be escorted by police in the wake of the recent Cauvery unrest,’ he wrote further.

Joyal was thankful that the convoy of at least eight police vehicles with personnel took over from various check-posts to usher the travellers safely on the highway.

‘From a convoy of four vehicles in the morning, we were 16 vehicles by the end of the day. I realised the enthusiasm of the TN Police was only to ensure that we crossed TN safely and entered Karnataka,’ he continued in his post. What touched him the most was how the policemen performed their duty without any expectations.

‘Before I could stop by to thank the policemen for ensuring our safety, the pilot vehicle took a detour and faded into darkness with no expectation of goodwill or thanks. May God bless them with more power and bless our country with such zealous people for law and order,’ he concluded the post.
