Kerala: Consumerfed calls for vigilance probe

Dr. M. Ramanunni denied allegations that Consumerfed was trying to protect corrupt officials.

KOCHI: The director board meeting of Consumerfed has decided to recommend a probe by Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau against corrupt officials. The meeting held at the Consumerfed head office here on Tuesday, recommended action against the 113 officials who are facing corruption allegations. A letter to the DGP will be sent. Addressing a press conference, managing director Dr. M. Ramanunni denied allegations that Consumerfed was trying to protect corrupt officials.

“Disciplinary action such as suspension has been initiated against 39 employees against whom there is substantial evidence. The Vigilance probe has been recommended to collect evidence against other officials. Once it is completed, we will initiate disciplinary action against them,” he said. Details of all complaints against employees who amassed wealth beyond their known sources of income will also be collected. Internal audits in all establishments under Consumerfed will be conducted soon. The last audit was in 2012 – 13, added the managing director. Responding to queries, Dr. M. Ramanunni said that during the Onam season, the agency’s total turnover was Rs 62 crore. Compared to the previous year, Consumerfed registered a growth of 200 per cent this Onam season, he added.
