Body formed for migrants' welfare

HYDERABAD: In an attempt to bring all migrant communities on a single platform and to ensure they receive the benefits of the state and the Central government, the Southern Migrant United Front (SMUF) was formed in Hyderabad on Sunday.

The front will work to take up issues concerning residents of other states living in Telangana state. “Concerns of these communities are varied and wide, without any inclusive organisations to address them,” said Surender Singh of Uttar Pradesh, the man behind the initiative.

Representatives from different migrant communities residing in Telangana state, and their representatives from respective states, participated in the meeting and presented their views.

“Membership enrolment will be taken up initially and then activities of common interest would be taken up for the welfare of the members,” said SMUF president Satish Agarwal.

The front will also act as a bridge between communities and respective governments and work in collaboration. “We will soon expand to other states and work with the local governments to ensure that the members receive the eligible benefits,” said Surender Singh.
