Bengaluru: Police officer alleges phone tapping

Though the case has been registered by the cyber crime police on Monday, the FIR has not mentioned the names of any suspect or accused.

Bengaluru: Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Kuldeep Kumar R. Jain has filed a complaint at the Cyber Crime police station alleging phone tapping by unknown persons.

Though the case has been registered by the cyber crime police on Monday, the FIR has not mentioned the names of any suspect or accused of tapping the DCP’s phone.

Based on the complaint an FIR was filed charging the unknown persons under Section 26 of Indian Telegraph Act (divulges the purport of any telegraphic signal to any person not entitled to become acquainted with the same) and section 72 of the Information Technology Act (having secured access to any electronic record, correspondence, information, document or other material breaching confidentiality of privacy).

The police said that it was not mandatory to mention the name of suspect or accused in the case as the details could be added later based on the outcome of the investigation.

The phone tapping case, which has now been transferred to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by the State government, was probed by Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Patil and the Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao had submitted an interim report to the Director General and Inspector General of Police few days ago. It is also alleged that former chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s office was involved.

According to sources, the CBI will probe unauthorised accesss of the telephonic conversation between a senior police officer identifying himself as Bhaskar Rao with Faraz, a power broker, which was subsequently leaked to the media.
