India Meteorological Department said it expects similar weather conditions to continue or even worse conditions in the next couple of days.

Bengaluru: While most parts of the city received 5.9 mm of rainfall, the HAL limits in Bengaluru East Zone got 38.8 mm of rainfall leading to tree falls, water logging and traffic jams on Tuesday. India Meteorological Department said it expects similar weather conditions to continue or even worse conditions in the next couple of days.

Tree falls

About nine trees were uprooted throughout the city and some buildings were damaged as parts of the tree and branches fell down.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has been alert throughout the day. In the east zone alone, three trees were uprooted due to rain demolishing a compound wall of a private property. In Yelahanka, a tree got uprooted and leaned onto a house, which was cleared by gangmen later.

In Battarahalli 3rd cross a tree cracked and fell on a house. However, no damage was reported. In Krishnarajapura 3rd cross in Rajarajeshwarinagar, the head of a tree fell on the road causing traffic jam for a couple of hours. In Chunchunghatta near J P Nagar 7th phase, a huge tree was uprooted that fell on the middle of the road damaging some electrical wires thereby causing traffic jam for close to six hours.

Similarly, in Vyalikaval 5th main, a tree branch collapsed on a house causing minimal damage to the building. Two trees were uprooted in Malleshwaram affecting traffic for about three hours. However, no tree falls have been reported from HAL area where maximum rain was recorded on Tuesday.

Water logging

Water logging was reported in Marathahalli Bridge underpass, Veerasandra junction in Electronic City and Jayamahal Road underpass slowing down traffic for more than five hours in the evening. The Koramangala outer ring road and low lying areas of Ejipura witnessed water logging affecting normal movement of vehicles. Two-wheeler riders faced great difficulty on the bumpy and potholed 4.1 kilometre Suranjandas Road stretch with lack of streetlights further adding to the woes.

Sooraj Puthiyedam, a visitor from Kerala who was riding on a hired two-wheeler on this road, had a horrendous time. Narrating his experience, he said, "First of all due to lack of streetlights, it is difficult to locate the potholes and the uneven surfaces on Suranjandas road. The ride today was pretty risky, as the two-wheeler was kind of submerged and some speeding four-wheelers drenched me more than the rains. I almost hit a divider a little ahead of the Aeronautical Society of India gate where there is huge virtual cesspool created."

Similarly, heavy water logging was reported from Kaggadaspura Main Road near Vignannagar in C V Raman Nagar limits. No casualties were reported till reports last came in.
