Suspended cop gets CAT relief

In April 2011, the Madras HC directed CBI to take over investigation into the kidnap case along cheating case against Paazee.

Chennai: In a major relief to P. Pramod Kumar, IPS, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has quashed his four year-old suspension with immediate effect. He was suspended following his alleged involvement in the Rs 870 crore Paazee Scam case.

On an application from Pramod Kumar, the CAT here, comprising judicial member G. Rajasurya and administrative member R.Ramanujam revoked the suspension order dated May 2, 2012.

“We are at a loss to understand as to why his suspension should not be revoked. The admitted fact is that the CBI court has also closed criminal proceedings and as such it cannot be taken that the criminal proceedings are pending and the investigation admittedly is dormant. As such, we are of the considered view that further continuance of Pramod Kumar’s suspension is unwarranted and that has to be revoked and accordingly, we revoke the order extending his suspension.

We direct the authority concerned to reinstate him in any of the non-sensitive post”, said the Bench in its August 9 order. Pramod Kumar was an inspector general of police (west zone) from September 2008 to February 2010. In 2009, the economic offences wing registered a case against the directors of Paazee Forex Trading India Private Limited, which had allegedly cheated more than 50,000 depositors to the tune of Rs 870 crore. A director, Kamalavalli, alleged that four persons, including a deputy superintendent of police, had abducted her in December 2009. This case was handed over to CBCID.
