Hyderabad: Osmania University has named Prof. H. Venkateshwarlu, Director, Centre for Distance Education, as officer on special duty to oversee the year-long centenary celebrations of the university which will start on April 26 next year.
Prof. Venkateshwarlu said that the organising committee which is headed by the vice-chancellor is working on various ideas to celebrate the landmark. He said the university was mooting inviting Nobel laureates as part of the celebrations apart from having state- and national level seminars.
There was a plan to include school students in the celebrations. The university was working on inviting the President or the Prime Minister along with the Telangana Chief Minister for the inaugural of the festivities.
The university plans to ask the Union ministry for human resource development and other government bodies for extra funds for the upkeep and development of the university. The organising committee is planning to bring on board former vice-chancellors of the university and well-known alumni to generate ideas.
