Some unknown facts about Oscar Fernandes, Janardhan Poojary
Mangaluru: ‘Nannolagina Naanu’, the autobiography of former minister late B.A. Moideen has brought to light various unknown facts about Congress leaders especially former ministers like Oscar Fernandes and Janardhan Poojary and how they ‘suppressed’ senior Congress leaders who backed former CM Devaraj Urs.
Unlike most autobiographies of politicians which are about self appreciation and criticism of others, the book also throws light on the culture, social beliefs and history of the region. The book release was attended by former CM Siddaramaiah, Speaker Ramesh Kumar, Minister U.T. Khader and others. Though Moideen had completed the autobiography and had also invited guests for the release function, he died ten days before the release.
The book has untold stories about three leaders of the Congress from the region, who later grew into national leaders-Janardhan Poojary, Veerappa Moily and Oscar Fernandes. Moideen narrates in detail how he was sidelined in the Congress by Poojary, Moily and Oscar but adds that he does not have any anger or hate against them. The book gains importance as Moideen speaks a lot about Moily, Poojary and Oscar.
“At one stage my political career ended because of three leaders- Veerappa Moily, Janardhan Poojary and Oscar Fernandes. Never did I do any wrong to them but helped them whenever I could. I still wonder why they did this to me? The pain caused by these three still haunts me. I worked shoulder to shoulder along with Devaraj Urs to bring into force the 20 point programme of Indira Gandhi...... I worked in the Congress continuously till 1977. But who is Janardhan Poojary? He was just a lawyer and a junior of the then famous lawyer Yusuf Hyder...." he narrates in the book.
“Kaup Bhaskar Shetty, Damodar Mulky, B Subbayya Shetty, Anandakunda Hegde and AG Kodgi were ruthlessly suppressed by Janardhan Poojary, Veerappa Moily and Oscar Fernandes in our district," he narrates. "I do not have any anger against them. They were incidents that could happen in politics," he says. Moideen also narrates how he identified Oscar Fernandes and made him youth Congress president.
