High-level panel to revive e-Office application

Almost all the departments in the secretariat have already switched over to e-Office application.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the National Informatics Centre (NIC) failing to address several long-pending technical snags in the e-Office application that are affecting file-processing, the state government has constituted a high-level five-member committee of secretaries to find solutions. Almost all the departments in the secretariat have already switched over to e-Office application. The state government had been urging NIC, which developed the application, to resolve many issues, but they still remain unresolved.

Additional chief secretary (finance) K.M. Abraham is the chairman of the committee and IT secretary M. Sivasankar the convenor. According to a government order, as the NIC failed to address various issues with regard to e-Office, even file processing was affected due to less than satisfactory user interface and difficult navigation through user screens. Sources said that the severity of the issues was intensifying as e-Office was being implemented in more departments.

The state has even mooted developing a second edition of e-Office. The committee will have to suggest solutions at the earliest and also look into similar issues faced by other states using e-Office and hold discussions with the NIC. Additional chief secretary (planning and economic affairs), principal secretaries of general administration and personnel and administrative reforms departments are the other members of the committee.
