Visakhapatnam: You donate necessary items or money to the poor through the services of Vizag Smiles, a voluntary organisation that picks up the stuff anyone wants to donate and deliver it to the needy, but how would you know your donation was used properly.
To dispel such doubts and bring transparency in the service, the voluntary organisation is now sharing the works carried out through Facebook live videos and WhatsApp.
“The van driver equipped with a smart phone asks for your WhatsApp or Facebook details, once you donated something to them. Later, they will show the charity works done through your money or items live on Facebook or share a picture on WhatsApp, keeping everything accountable and transparent,” said P. Raghu, the founder of Vizag Smile.
The NGO provides pick-up facility across the city with the help of volunteers supporting the NGO. From books to clothes and toys, one can donate any product of their choice dialling 7306700700.
“The social networking has not only helped us to reach out to people without any advertisements but also to win the trust of people. The response has been very good since we started from May. We at least deliver 70-80 meals everyday to the poor people dwelling in slums, shelter houses, old age homes. People are eagerly coming out to sponsor food or donate items as we are maintaining transparency,” he added.
Our focus is not only to help the needy but also to recycle resources, Mr Raghu added.
