Ooty: International Yoga Day is the day on which the globe turns its eye to India. In order to create awareness in villages on this ancient Indian art, 150 students of the Gurukulam school at Thuneri village near here walked up to the Parade hills near Annikorai village, a serene hillock that commands a panoramic view of the scenic surroundings, on Thursday to commemorate Yoga Day, in advance, under the title “Yoga and Nature”. They first cleaned the area on a Swachh mission and then began to perform yoga in the natural surroundings atop the hillock. They also recited Sanskrit slokas and meditated for a while.

Since Parade hills is home to an ancient musical stone (a big rock which produces some musical tones when hit) the yoga talents spent time with musical stone which is said to emanate positive vibrations in the atmosphere.

N.Arjunan, correspondent of the school, said that the students spent three hours amidst nature during which time they had the opportunity to learn about medicinal plants and nature and the need to conserve nature and also the joy of doing yoga in clean air and green environs.
