Hayathnagar cops arrest 5-member gang
Hyderabad: A gang of five persons who were involved in a robbery were all arrested by the Hayathnagar police on Thursday. The gang used to roam on bikes during the night hours and rob pedestrians walking alone, said the police, who recovered property worth `1.6 lakh from the accused.
On June 7, a man walking home alone in Koheda village was robbed of a mobile phone and cash. A case was registered and the Hayathnagar police, along with the LB Nagar central crime station sleuths, worked on the clues and analysed footage of around 120 CCTV cameras installed between Koheda village and Charminar and Meerpet.
The vehicle used by the robbers was identified and in time so were the offenders who had been involved in similar offences earlier.
The Rachakonda police said that acting on a tip, the accused persons — Md Rizwan Ali, 22, of Yakutpura, Syed Nayeem, 21, of Santoshnagar, Md Khashif, 18, of Shaheenagar, Md Thoufiq, 19, of Edi Bazar and Octovien Jennifer, 37, of Balapur, the lone woman member of the gang, were apprehended at Pedda Amberpet.
The police officer said that Rizwan and Nayeem had been arrested by the Hyderabad city police in several cases of property theft. Around six months ago, Rizwan got acquainted with Jennifer through a common friend, and also took part in the offences along with the gang. They used to roam on bikes late at night and target pedestrians walking alone.
Based on the confession of the gang, about `3,000 cash, two mobile phones, and three bikes, including two used during the offence, all worth `1.6 lakh were recovered. All five have been remanded to judicial custody, said the police.
