UP: 21 participants fall ill due to rain after attending Yoga day

Due to rain and wind, twenty one participants complained of hypothermia or headache, District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said.

Lucknow: Twenty one participants, including several children, today fell ill due to adverse weather after taking part in the International Yoga Day programme which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi here at the Rambai Ambedkar grounds.

"Due to rain and wind, twenty one participants complained of hypothermia (shivering and cold) or headache. Some of them were treated at the temporary hospital set up at the venue. All of them were later brought to the Lokbandhu hospital and were admitted there for two-three hours," District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said.

All of them were later discharged after their condition normalised, he said.

The participants, who had to attend the PM's yoga day programme had to reach the venue in the early hours and it rained heavily between 4 to 4.30 AM with high-speed winds also blowing, the official said.

The administration had made arrangements for health care facilities at the venue and a temporary eight bed hospital had been set up. Twenty four ambulances and twenty mobile stretchers were also available at the venue, the DM said.
