Kodiyeri Balakrishnan calls it state's responsibility'

Kodiyeri said the action council should be ready to hold negotiations with the government.

Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Tuesday said the police action in Kochi was in connection with the security arrangements put in place for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit. He said it was the responsibility of the state police to make security arrangements for the prime minister's visit. Had the agitators not been removed from the site at that time the situation could have gone out of control, he added. Kodiyeri said the action council should be ready to hold negotiations with the government. They should reconsider their earlier decision to keep off the talks.

The CPM state secretary said the action council agitation was in violation of the undertaking given by them before the High Court that they would not disrupt the work of the plant. The agitation which was held on the day of PM's visit and that too without any prior notice could have led to serious consequences, he added.Had the agitators reached the venue of Kochi Metro inauguration, the state government would have come under severe criticism for security breach. Mr. Balakrishnan said the government would look into lapses if any , in connection with the implementation of the project.
