Kerala engineering entrance examination: Boys bag top 10 ranks in tech entrance test
Thiruvananthapuram: Boys outshined girls by bagging all the top 10 ranks in the Kerala engineering entrance examination, the results of which were announced by higher education principal secretary Usha Titus here on Tuesday. N. Shafil Maheen of Kozhikode bagged the first rank. The student from Kozhikode had also secured the all-India fourth rank in JEE advanced entrance examination. Vedant Prakash Shenoy, Abhilash Kar and Anand George, all from Kottayam, bagged the second, third and fourth ranks respectively. M. Nandagopal from Kozhikode, Prashant Shishodia from Kottayam, Aaron John Sabu from Thiruvananthapuram, K. Aghin Shah Alin from Malappuram, Nandagopan from Kollam and Satyabrata Naik from Kottayam bagged the fifth to tenth ranks.
In the scheduled caste category, C. Indrajith from Malappuram and Aswin Viswanath from Wayanad bagged the first two ranks while Gibin George from Kottayam bagged the first and P. Aswin from Kasargod second in the scheduled tribe category. Alif Anshil CP from Malappuram, Sudip Maji from Kottayam, Naquash Nazar from Kozhikode, P.K. Muhammed Rabeeh from Kozhikode and P.S. Nirmal Prakash won the first five ranks in pharmacy entrance examinations. Of the total of 44,659 students who wrote the examinations from the state syllabus, 2,535 were ranked below 5000 while of the total of 15,188 students from CBSE who wrote the entrance examinations 2,280 were ranked below 5000. In the ICSE syllabus, 140 candidates among the 1,043 were ranked below 5,000, while 45 of the 419 students from other syllabuses have also qualified for the entrance examinations. Of the top 100 ranks 87 were male and 13 female.
The top 100 ranked candidates included 61 first appearance and 39 second appearance candidates. Of the top 100 ranked candidates, 20 are from Kottayam, 17 from Ernakulam and 14 from Kozhikode. Out of the 72,440 students who qualified in the entrance examination, 61,716 had submitted the marks scored in the Plus-Two examination for preparation of the final rank list. However, due to discrepancies in the application, the results of 107 candidates in the engineering entrance examination have been withheld. As many as 699 students, who did not submit the marks scored in the Plus- Two examination, have also not figured in the final rank list. A total of 90,806 candidates wrote the examinations, including 48,248 males and 42,558 females. Of them, 32,036 males and 29,680 females qualified for the entrance examinations.
