Hyderabad: Herbivores to get new grazing lands
Hyderabad: The forest department will generate fodder through grasslands for herbivores. Open areas with rich soil will be identified from which weeds will be removed and grass seedlings planted.
“This step has been taken to ensure food for herbivores. It is important to maintain a balance in the ecological system where all animals are well fed,”said a retired senior forest official. The department will also maintain the existing grassland areas.
“Our main aim is to keep the grass growing in areas where it had been previously growing but stopped due to the intense heat and excessive weeds,” said Chief Conservator of Forests Manoranjan Bhanj.
The areas which are being concentrated on are Kaghaz Nagar, Pocharam, Nallamalla and Kawal tiger reserve and others.
Cattle grazing in the forests is a constant challenge for many forest officials. The forest department is planning on setting up core areas where they will try to ensure that the wildlife in the forest will not lose fodder to cattle.
