Chennai: Noble gesture lands classmate medical seat
Chennai: Having placed first in the ‘Ex Servicemen’ category, Varshini. S. of SRV Matriculation higher secondary school, Samayapuram, Trichy, got a seat at the Madras Medical College (MMC). However, her happiness was destined to be shared through an act of kindness for which she was applauded.
Being assured that she would be placed at MMC under the BC quota in the general counselling set to begin on Tuesday, she opted out and thereby let her classmate and friend N. Janani get her seat at MMC.
Hailing from Trichy, Varshini and Janani had studied together in classes XI and XII and built a strong friendship over the course of their two years together.
“I was given the assurance that I would get a seat in MMC under the BC quota in the general counselling and so I opted out to let the next candidate get the seat and it ended up being Janani,” said Varshini who scored an over all of 1,187 with a cut off of 199.
“I was least expecting to get a seat in MMC and I am overjoyed at having done so. I am more than grateful towards my good friend for having been so kind,” said Janani who scored a total of 1,181 with a cut off of 198.75.
The joy of the two guardians who had accompanied the two girls for the interview, was very evident with Varshini’s father, Subramanian. C. and Janani’s uncle both seen beaming with pride.
