Chennai: To cater to the liking of kids and to woo them with burgers, sandwiches, cup noodles, corn flakes and chocos, IRCTC will soon be rolling out children’s menu at Chennai Central, after having launched it at Egmore.
“We offer over 400-500 varieties of food through our outlets and e-catering site but they are mainly to the liking of adults. To introduce things that children like, for instance cheese, bread, noodles, the children’s menu was launched. These items have fewer portions, and thus, slightly different price,” said a senior IRCTC official.
Currently, the children’s menu is available through IRCTC’s e-catering website and is being provided by a big food outlet at Chennai Egmore. To have a better reach among rail passengers, another big catering unit will be commissioning launch of this special menu at Central.
“We are experimenting with the kind of food that should be on the children’s menu but in same cases, it is difficult to source the items. Cut fruits were one of the things we considered but given the shelf life of fruits, and the quality over a period of time, it was later disregarded,” the official added.
Some parents, however, had a positive response over the availability of a menu for children. “My son prefers burgers and sandwiches over chapattis, especially, during the journey if he sees other children have something, he too prefers that. I believe, this will help me buy what he likes,” said P. Dhanalakshmi.
