Boys secure top-10 ranks in Kerala engineering entrance exams
Thiruvananthapuram: Boys bagged all the top 10 ranks in the Kerala engineering entrance examinations, the results of which were announced on Monday. Six ranks were bagged by CBSE students and four by the state syllabus students. V. Ram Ganesh from Kochi came first, Akshay Anand from Thiruvalla second and Ashwin S. Nair from Thiruvananthap- uram third. The others in the top ten are S. Sreejith of Thiruvalla (4th), Athul Gangadharan of Kannur (5th), Muhammed Abdul Majeed of Kozhikode (6th), Geordi Jose of Kochi (7th), Ram Kesav of Malappuram (8th), Ritesh Kumar of Kochi (9th) and Roshin Raphel of Kozhikode (10th).
P. Shiboos of Malappuram came first and V.M. Rishikesh of Thrissur came second in the scheduled caste category while S. Adarsh of Kottayam and S. Namita of Kochi came first and second respectively in the scheduled tribe category.
In the architecture steam, Namitha Niji from Kozhikode bagged the first rank, Nishanth Krishna of Kozhikode second, M.P. Muhsin Mohammed Ali of Malappuram third, Anshad Subair of Idukki fourth and Ailin Reba Jain of Kottayam fifth. A total of 55,914 students who submitted their Plus-Two marks online in the engineering stream and 2,826 in the architecture stream are included in the list.
In the engineering entrance, 31, 187 are boys and 24,727 girls. The rank list was prepared by giving equal weightage to the marks obtained in the entrance test and in mathematics, physics and chemistry /computer science / biotechnology /biology put together in the Plus-Two examinations. A total of 1,02,649 candidates appeared for the engineering entrance examination. Of them 78,169 qualified.
However, the results of 6,368 candidates have been withheld for want of adequate documents while the rest have not submitted their marks of the Plus-Two examinations online. Of the 100 top rank-holders, 90 are boys and only 10 girls. The highest number of students in the top 100 ranks is from Ernakulam district with 28 followed by Kozhikode and Kottyam 16 each and Thiruvananthapuram 12. Of them, 73 made the first appearance 27 second.
The number of CBSE rank-holders is 550, Kerala higher secondary 383, ISCE 54, other scheme 10 and higher secondary or vocational higher secondary outside Kerala 3. Education Minister C. Raveendranath told reporters that from the next academic year, facilities would be provided in all higher secondary schools to help the students submit their applications for entrance examinations.
The IT teachers will be given the charge of providing training to the students to submit the applications. They will also be trained in filling the OMR sheets of the entrance examinations, Mr Raveendranath said.
