Contractor, officials embezzled money

Two check dams in Telangana washed away due to poor quality works: BJP

KARIMNAGAR: The BJP district unit president Gangadi Krishna Reddy has demanded that the state government take immediate action against the contractor and the officials for poor quality construction works leading to the washing away of a check dams on the Manair bridge in Korkal and Lasmakkapalli villages of Veenavanka mandal.

Referring to the fall of these check dams, Krishna Reddy said there was no supervision of the works by officials, who instead kept quiet after taking bribes from contractors. Crores of money went into the pockets of the contractor and officials, he said.

The check dams constructed at a cost of Rs 12.59 crore did not last for even a few days. The check dams would have benefited not only to the farmers of this region but also the fishermen community and others living in the surrounding villages.

Krishna Reddy criticised the government for giving contracts to shady men looting public money by way of taking up works and doing a shoddy job. This must be a lesson to the government, and it should take up works on new check dam on Manair and maintain high standards, he said.

If the government does not take action against the concerned officials and the contractor, the BJP will hold protest demonstrations at the damaged sites of the check dams, he said.

BJP leaders R Adi Reddy, Narasimha Raju, Naresh, M. Praveen, Rama Raju, Vinod, Sammi Reddy, Surendar Reddy, Raju, Bhaskar, Ramana Reddy and Prashanth were among those present.
