Eluru: Call to take up awareness drive to curb fevers in WG

He directed the concerned officials to mobilise men and material for taking up three phase spraying operation in the district.

Eluru: To control spread of seasonal fevers like malaria, dengue, chikungunya and others, West Godavari administration is taking up an awareness programme and also has come up with an action plan to mark World Malaria Day on April 25.

West Godavari collector Praveen Kumar in a meeting held with the officials on Saturday, released posters on how to control fevers like malaria, dengue and chikungunya.

Speaking on the occasion, the collector underlined the importance to mainten cleanliness and personal hygiene and felt the need to bring awareness among the people on how a mosquito bite could make the people vulnerable to fall victim for seasonal fevers.

He said that, they were going to take up a series of awareness programmes by taking out a rally at district, mandal and village levels.

He added that awareness programme would be launched in agency area. Referring to the district health report last year, collector said that 139 villages in agency areas were declared as malaria high risk areas while 75 villages were declared as dengue high risk areas and laid stress to come up with an action plan to tackle the seasonal fevers like malaria, dengue and chikungunya.

The collector called upon the officials to be alert and pursue each case reported on fevers to find out the reasons so that they could be handled properly.

The collector said that as part of an action plan to tackle seasonal fevers like malaria and others, they were going to take up spraying from June 1 to July 15 in the first phase and again from August 1 to September 15 in second phase and the third phase spraying would be taken up from October 1 to November 15.
