Kerala: Indian Oil Corporation to complete storage expansion project by June

LPG bottling plant of IOC at Udayamperoor will be of 3,600 metric tonnes.

KOCHI: The expansion of storage capacity of LPG bottling plant of Indian Oil Corporation at Udayamperoor to 3,600 metric tonnes will be completed in June. The present capacity of the plant allows it to store LPG that can last only less than two days. After the completion of the expansion, the plant will be able to store LPG for seven days, said Mr C.N. Rajendrakumar, deputy general manager (LPG) IOCL. “The plant will be able to deliver LPG throughout Kerala for seven days at any time,” he said. As the pipeline connecting the plant to Cochin Refinery and the Puthuvypeen import terminal gets completed, the movement of bullet tankers through the roads will come to an end, he said.

The plant has undertaken all steps necessary to ensure the safety and security of employees and local residents. The Udayamperoor plant with its modern safety procedures has won the British Safety Council Award in 2017. The storage capacity will be expanded by installing large mounted bullet tankers with 3,600 metric tonnes capacity along with additional security and safety installations. The area housing the tanker will be surrounded by three-metre- high walls, steel fences and 24-hour CCTV surveillance. The cameras have the capacity to give warnings if unauthorised personnel enter the premises.
