Greens march in support of Devikulam sub-collector Sriram Venkitaraman

Several green activists in the district including Syamkumar Thenkurissi among others took part.

Palakkad: ‘Paristhithi Aikya Vedi’, a forum of greens in Palakkad, took out a march and held a meeting the other day in support of Devikulam sub-collector Sriram Venkitaraman, who has initiated action against land grabbers and unauthorized constructions at Munnar in Idukki. Their expression of solidarity comes in the wake of Idukki Collector and Devikulam sub-collector planning a major eviction, from next week, of encroachers and illegal buildings in the high ranges of Munnar after holding a meeting with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday in Thiruvanathapuram.

Youth Congress leader Boban Mattumantha who took part in the march said all those who cared for the environment had come forward to form the forum, cutting across political differences. On Wednesday, the Vedi took out a procession and held a meeting in support of the sub-collector who faces an alleged threat from Devikulam MLA S Rajendran and Power Minister M M Mani for issuing notices of eviction to encroachers in Munnar. There would also be a massive signature campaign in support of the young IAS officer. Several green activists in the district including Syamkumar Thenkurissi among others took part.
