Probe into graft cases slow: VS Achuthanandan

The Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau (VACB) was not acting on the expected lines.

Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran CPM leader V S Achuthanandan on Monday lashed out at the LDF Government for "going slow" on important corruption cases in the state. He was speaking at a seminar on "Corruption and Civil Service: Need for transparency" organised by Government Law College and Institute of Public Administration. Achuthanandan said those who had spoken against corruption are hesitant to expedite investigations against graft cases after coming to power.

The veteran leader alleged that the investigations into the Titanium and Palmolein case were moving at a snail's pace. The Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau (VACB) was not acting on the expected lines. The authorities concerned were delivering a hard blow to the common man by conniving with influential and powerful corrupt persons, he lamented “It is unfortunate that people are not considering such activities as corruption. It is the responsibility of the government staff to ensure corruption free administration. If the awareness that common man is the master of civil servant gains wider acceptance, corruption will be checked to a large extent," he added.
