Classes resume at Mother College
Thrissur: The Mother College at Peruvallur, 14 km from here, reopened on Mondayafter the resignation of principal in-charge Muhammed Saleem following student protest last week. The students of the arts and science college had gone on strike after Mr Saleem allegedly made lewd comments at female students over a hostel inmate using mobile phone in her room. The students told DC that the college management had agreed to sign an agreement with them and their parents in the presents of the local police to solve their issues.
They included elimination of unnecessary fines, removal of Saleem from all the posts in the college and the Al-Naser Trust that runs the college and refund of hostel fees to the students who had left the college hostel after contaminated water was pumped for their use. The new principal in-charge C.V. Mini told DC that Mr Saleem would not be reinstated and that his tenure was about to end next month.
"As he works as the secretary of the trust, it was up to the college chairman Dr A. Ali and trust members to decide on his further association with the college," she said. The students said that if Saleem returned, he would take vindictive action against those who had led the strike. They would demand his ouster at the meeting to be held in the presence of Pavaratty police, they said.
