Hyderabad to host int’l pet expo from Jan. 27-29

Hyderabad: Hyderabad will host a three-day international pet expo from January 27 to 29, after a two-year Covid- induced gap. The event titled ‘Petex India 2023’ is aimed at responsible pet parenting because of many adopting pets during the pandemic lockdowns.

Over 20,000 people are expected to attend the three-day event, which will comprise of HyCan ’23, a showcase of over 500 dogs from 50 breeds, which will be judged by an eight-member panel of judges from Spain, India, Australia, Austria, South Africa and Sweden.

Among other highlights of the event is an international cat show, which will feature over 120 cats, with judges from Turkey and Latvia adjudicating. Yoga for puppies, a mini dog marathon, a grooming competition and a veterinary conference are also scheduled.

The event is being organised by Hitex, in association with the Hyderabad Canine Club (HCC).

Phillip Bhutt, honorary secretary of HCC, said lack of awareness about pets is a problem for freak incidents, such as a recent one wherein a delivery executive jumped off a roof and died, while evading a pet.

“Both animals and human beings are scared of each other. Dogs are not scary animals, but at the same time, irresponsible pet parenting is another issue,” he said.
