KOCHI: This is the sad story of a UP girl who was allegedly cheated by a Malayali youth. Anil Kuruvila of Airapuram near Perumbavoor had married Jabin Shayaq of Uttar Pradesh a few years ago. Both were collegemates while Jabin was doing her diploma in aeronautical engineering at Meerut. After a son was born to them in UP, he decamped with Rs 6 lakh which was given to her by her parents as share and built a house in his ancestral land. Jabin with her son came to Airapuram in search of Anil in December and has been living on the terrace of the house as Anil and his parents have left the place after locking the house.
The State Human Rights Commission and the Women's Commission on Saturday came forward to aid the duo who are living without basic amenities. The Woman’s Commission registered a case and offered to provide protection and legal aid to them. Commission member Shiji Sivaji also visited them. She said that they may be moved to the commission’s short stay home or the shelter of the social justice department. The police have been asked to find out her husband.
As per the complaint given by Jabin Shayaq, her husband built a house in his ancestral property after promising her that they can stay there. Thereafter the whereabouts of the husband were not revealed to her. They had lived for four months at Anil Kuruvila’s house at Airapuram after registering their marriage. Then they went back to UP where Jabin gave birth to the boy who was baptized and named Yohannan.
Now Yohannan is studying in a CBSE school and Jabin is struggling to make both ends meet. She came to Airapuram in the fourth week of December and Anil was present at his house then, but immediately left the place followed by his parents who locked the house. Jabin has been occupying the terrace of the house for the past three weeks without any means to meet even her primary needs. She is supported by the neighbours. Human Rights Commission acting chairman P. Mohanadas said after visiting the woman that it was a clear case of rights violation. He ordered the protection officer, Ernakulam, to submit an investigation report before the magistrate and help her have her basic necessities.
