MILMA prices likely to go up by Rs 2

Mr Kurup added that the production of milk had come down by one lakh litres compared to the previous year.

Thiruvananthapuram: Milma is likely to increase the price of milk by Rs 2 soon on account of the shortage of milk in the domestic market due to the drought situation and increase of milk procurement price in neighbouring Karnataka. Mr P.T. Gopala Kurup, chairman of the Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd, told DC on Friday that though price hike was essential, the exact increase would be decided after discussions at various levels, he said.

At present, the state needed 13.60 lakh litres of milk daily, while it produced only 10.20 lakh litres forcing the state to procure 3.40 litres per day from the neighbouring state. Mr Kurup added that the production of milk had come down by one lakh litres compared to the previous year. At present, the price of smart double toned milk in yellow packet is Rs 36 per litre whereas price per phalf-litre acket is Rs 19. The price of homogenised toned milk in blue packets is Rs 38 per litre and that of standardised high-fat milk in green cover is Rs 40.
