Cochin University of Science and Technology science expo Shastrayan kicks off

The Shastrayan Sammelan' was opened by vice-chancellor Dr J. Letha on Friday.

Kochi: A system which alerts the housewife through an SMS when the LPG cylinder has a leak and sends a message to the gas agency to book the new cylinder when the quantity of the gas in the cylinder goes down below 10 per cent is here. The ‘Intelligent Gas Platform’ being presented by the students of Pulinkunnu Engineering College is part of the Shastrayan expo which began at the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) with a view to taking the benefit of university researches to the public. The same students are also presenting the maglev train that runs on magnetic power and a machine that crushes organic waste to manure.

The ‘Shastrayan Sammelan’ was opened by vice-chancellor Dr J. Letha on Friday. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will formally inaugurate the two-day event on Saturday. The computer science department of the university has designed a software that automatically brings into a concise form articles in Malayalam while the polymer science department has designed a nano solution that douses fire without causing pollution. Meanwhile Cusat signed a memorandum of understanding with Cochin Shipyard Ltd. for the promotion of academic, scientific and research cooperation. It enables industrial visits for students, promotion of R&D activities and collaborative research project through funding and exchange of scientific materials and information.
