Hyderabad: Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao directed officials to ensure proper and timely supply of seeds, especially of cotton and maize, to farmers. He directed seed companies to give primary importance to supply for Telangana farmers before supplying them to other states.
Nageswara Rao was speaking at a review meeting with officials from the agriculture department, Seed Development Corporation, scientists from the agriculture universities and representatives of seed companies.
The minister asked officials to ensure that spurious seeds are not circulated and directed that stringent action be taken against erring companies. Orders were given for payment of compensation to farmers by companies which sell spurious seeds.
Nageswara Rao also assured the seed companies of all help in the development of the sector.
