Lawyers up the ante in Land Titling Act protest
KAKINADA: Protests against the Andhra Pradesh Land Titling Act reached new heights on Tuesday as lawyers across the state continued their agitation. Under the banner of various Bar Associations, advocates boycotted courts and demanded the immediate scrapping of the Act.
Lawyer leaders expressed deep concern about the potential negative impact of the Act. Kakinada Bar Association President M. Visweswara Rao warned that the legislation could “discourage civil court powers and lead to significant injustice for the common people.”
Determined to make their voices heard, the Kakinada Bar Association resorted to relay fasts and a complete boycott of court proceedings. Rao announced that their agitation would “expedite in the coming days” unless the government heeded their demands and repealed the Act.
Several prominent lawyers led the protest in Kakinada, including Kakarla Venkateswara Rao, Ayyagari Venkatesh, Ch. Srinivas, Y. Madan Mohan, D.V. Prasad, V. Venkata Lakshmi, and Jawahar Ali. Their united front showcased the widespread opposition to the Land Titling Act within the legal community.
