UAPA slapped on social worker Nadeer
KOZHIKODE: Social worker and freelance journalist Nadeer (Nadi), was slapped with UAPA charges by the Aralam police on Monday. Mr Nadeer was taken into custody by the Medical College undercover police while visiting Kamal C. Chavara, who was taken into custody on Sunday for defaming national anthem. He was later shifted to Aralam for the tribals to identify. However his arrest has not been recorded yet. There are reports that the tribal people identified him as part of a group that distributed leaflets of 'Kattuthee', a Maoist publication.
There was a case registered in Aralam station on March 3 that the Maoists visited the farm and threatened them. Cases were registered against Sundari from Kanyakumari and P.P. Moideen in the case earlier. Nadeer hails from Balussery, Kozhikode. Mr Chavara has started a hunger strike inside the hospital following Mr Nadeer's arrest. A group of Facebook friends of Mr Nadeer protested at Kidson corner after Mr Nadeer was taken into custody.
