Swipe machines at Southern Railway reservation counters
KOZHIKODE: Southern Railway will install swiping machines in 22 reservation counters under Palakkad division. They have already installed SBI's point of sale (POS) machines at Kozhikode, Palakkad Junction, Shornur Junction, Kannur and Mangalore Central stations. Pollachi, Palakkad town, Ottapalam, Angadipuram, Malappuram, Tirur, Farook, Wayanad, Kozhikode (satellite), Vadakara, Mahe, Thalassery, Payyannur, Kanhangad and Kasargod will get them installed shortly.
“The SBI is supplying 10,000 POS machines to Indian railways. After receiving the feedback from the passengers and staff, the same would be extended to unreserved ticketing system (UTS) counters,” said Kozhikode railway chief commercial inspector Shyam Sasidharan. All counters except those in Wayanad and Malappuram under the non-rail head passenger reservation system (NRH) are functioning at the train stations.
The reservation counter for Wayanad is working at the Mukkam Service Cooperative Bank in Wayanad, and that of Malappuram at the Municipal Tourist Taxi Stand in Kottakkal. Sources said swiping machines would be set up at NRH counters in the second phase only.
