Now, Beach Hospital, Medical College to get Punarjani Scheme
KOZHIKODE: NSS technical cell volunteers of JDT Islamic Poly technical College and Westhill Poly Technical College are all set to implement the ‘Punarjani Scheme’, at the Kozhikode Beach General Hospital and Government Medical College Hospital. The Scheme that aims at improving the basic infrastructure of Government hospitals in the States will help both the hospitals save upto Rs one crore by repairing the existing infrastructure.
The students will start their mission from December 24 and will continue till December 30. The volunteers will repair equipment dumped because it is perceived as beyond repair including those in the operation theatre and will also undertake repair works of water storage tanks and toilets in these hospitals. Speaking about the initiative, NSS technical cell District Programme officer Sarathchandra Babu said, “A small grant has been sanctioned from the Government for the implementation of Punarjani scheme in various Government hospitals”.
“Projects like this are needed which, while benefiting the state, enhance the skill capabilities of our young engineers. It shows how human resources can be used for the development of the state while giving a different level of satisfaction to the individual”. As many as 100 students of each college will stay in these hospitals to undertake their mission. The hospitals will also be painted and given a new look after the six-day mission. Last year, the project was undertaken at the Government General Hospital and Government Homeo Hospital at Koyilandy.
