Meet finalises master plan for Ernakulam Government Medical College expansion

The specialty divisions are neurology, nephrology, neurosurgery, cardiology and gastroenterology.

KOCHI: Health Secretary Rajeev Sadanandan on Monday visited the Ernakulam Government Medical College (EMC) and held discussions with the vice-principal, medical superintendent, RMO, other officials and architects on the master plan for further expansion of the medical college. “The meeting finalised the master plan based on which the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) will prepare the Detailed Project Report which will specify the project cost and other aspects. After the DPR is prepared, it will be placed before the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) which will decide on the mode of funding,” Rajeev Sadanandan told DC after the meeting.

Monday’s was the second meeting in this regard attended by the Health Secretary. It is learned that principal Dr V.K. Sreekala did not attend the meeting. As per the master plan, five super specialty divisions will be added to the EMC apart from a mother and child health block. The buildings for the purpose will come up on the campus and it is expected that the blocks will become functional in two-three years.

The expansion of the existing OP wing will also be done along with that including it under the newly-launched Aardram project. In another development, the body of the girl K.A. Jaseena (17), who was hit and killed by a train, which was kept at the medical college mortuary since Sunday afternoon, was returned on Monday without conducting post-mortem by the EMC authorities citing that three police surgeons were on leave. It was later conducted at General Hospital.
