Bhubaneswar: Two skeletons with "human-like" skulls were on Monday found inside a newly-built overhead drinking water tank on the outskirts of Nischinta village in Odisha’s Jajpur district.
The skeletons were recovered by fire brigade personnel in the presence of district superintendent of police Vineet Agrawal.
The cops sent the skeletons to the district headquarters hospital for post-mortem.
As per reports, the overhead tank is located at a desolate place away from Nischinta village. The project is yet to be made functional.
Two children, who accidentally climbed up the tank on Monday while playing, spotted the skeletons. As the news spread, locals gathered at the place.
On learning about the incident, the SP along with a police team visited the spot. According to locals, as the place is away from the village, it is frequented by anti-social people, and hence, any foul play cannot be ruled out.
The police registered a case and started an investigation into the matter.
The cops suspect that as the skulls recovered are smaller in size, the skeletons could be of monkeys.
"The police is looking at all angles. We are waiting for the post-mortem report," said the SP Mr Agrawal.
