Mayor attack: CM Pinarayi Vijayan warns of stern action
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, visiting injured mayor V. K. Prasanth at Government Medical College Hospital here said that it was a premeditated attack. Talking to media, he said that such an incident should not have happened inside the corporation office. Later through a post on Facebook, he said that it was wrong to say that the mayor was injured in a commotion. "It was a unilateral attack which started without any provocation. Strict action will be taken against the culprits," the post read.
While most statements on Saturday called it an attack, LDF called it an attempt on the mayor's life on Sunday. Tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran, who visited mayor on Sunday, told DC, "Doctors said that mayor escaped death by an inch of difference.” Mr Vijayan, in his post, said that RSS workers, who have been accused in several cases, were in the visitors' gallery. BJP councillors started the attack without any provocation, he said. However, BJP district president S. Suresh, in a press meet, said that police and CPM scripted the murder attempt story. He said that the mayor's injuries were not serious.
