Hyderabad: Food camps to be part of Milad-un-Nabi festivities

Several religious meetings are being organised across the city.

Hyderabad: The city is gearing up to celebrate the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammed, Milad-un-Nabi, by holding religious meeting and other events.

Two major processions have been planned — one organised by the Sunni United Front of India (SUFI), and the other by the Sunni Dawat-Islami — both will commence from the historic Mecca Masjid.

Blood donation camps, free health check-ups, mass marriages for the benefit of the needy, food camps and distribution of educational kits to the students of government schools are also being organised.

“Instead of spending heavily on lighting and decorations, we are choosing to distribute educational kits at government schools. It will benefit underprivileged to a great extent,” says Ilyas Shareef, the organiser of the educational kit distribution programme.

Several religious meetings are being organised across the city, including one by Tameer-e-Millat at the Nizam College grounds which is expected to be attended by a few thousand people.

The largest congregation is expected at the Darussalam grounds, where several important scholars from the country and a few foreign guest speakers will address the gathering.

The two-day celebrations at Darussalam will include a series of lectures. “We are expecting about 30,000 people to attend. Arrangements for the smooth conduction of the programme are underway,” says Nampally MLA Jaffer Hussain Meraj, who is in-charge of organising the programme.
