Quick verification probe against ADGP R Sreelekha
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vigilance Director Jacob Thomas on Saturday informed the Thiruvana-nthapuram vigilance court that a quick verification has been ordered over an alleged corruption charge against ADGP R. Sreelekha. The court directed the anti-corruption department to submit a preliminary investigation report in the next 45 days. The case was taken based on a complaint by Jomon Puthenpurackal who raised 12 allegations that the ADGP had committed a fraud to the tune of Rs 3 crore.
He produced a 140-page report by transport secretary Jyothilal pointing out the gravity of allegation committed by Sreelekha in her capacity as transport commissioner. Complaint also points out that the office of Chief Secretary sat on the report for four months. As per the allegations, Sreelekha used Road Safety Funds to beautify a private road leading to her house. It also says that she went on a tour to several foreign countries on the pretext of going for studies at London.
The phone bills during this period, worth Rs 25,000 were also taken from government. Former transport commissioner Tomin Thachankary had handed over a report validating administrative pitfalls by his predecessor to the transport minister A.K. Saseendran. Eventually, the file went to chief secretary Vijayanand who recently handed over a report to the Chief Minister pointing out that offences by Ms Sreelekha were minor in nature and did not require an inquiry.
