Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation to pay its farmers through banks

The plan of making payment through banks was made by dairy minister K. Raju.

THRISSUR: In view of the difficulties faced by dairy farmers who are part of milk societies associated with Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd Milma has come up with a plan to distribute payments to farmers through their accounts in nationalised banks. The farmers who have accounts in nationalised banks need to do certain paper work through their societies by submitting the account numbers, IFSC code, ID cards etc, to their societies and from there it will be processed and forwarded to nationalised banks.

Chairman of Milma’s Ernakulam Co-operative Union P.A. Balan Master told this newspaper that the payment for the milk purchased from the farmers would be sent to these accounts in nationalised banks. However, there are some big dairy farmers who incur expenditure to the tune of Rs 1 lakh for purchasing cattle field and other expenses. Their issue will not be fully solved, Milma officials said.

Even though there would be an option of online transfers to overcome this issue, we are not sure that these farmers could do this option or that of submitting check/drafts for their payment for other expenses, Mr Balan said. The plan of making payment through banks was made by dairy minister K. Raju. at the ‘Invester’s Meet’of milk producers held in Thrissur Town Hall on Saturday. But the farmer’s who attended the event said that their issue would not be fully solved by this decision.
