Include SVS yoga institute in couselling, says Madras HC
Chennai: Madras High Court has directed the special commissioner and the director of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy to include the name of SVS Yoga and Naturopathy and Research Institute in the counseling list and admit students for the Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yoga Sciences course for 2016-17 academic year.
Justice B. Rajendran gave the directive on a petition filed by SVS Educational and Social Service Trust, Kallakurichi, which runs the institution. The petitioner sought a direction to Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, to send the seat matrix to the Special Commissioner and the Director of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy for counseling, which commenced on November 7 and would conclude on November 30 and also to direct the Director of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy to include the name of SVS Yoga and Naturopathy and Research Institute in counseling.
According to petitioner, its institution was accorded permission with an annual intake of 50 students on April 3, 2008 subject to satisfying conditions imposed by the University. The institution enjoyed provisional affiliation until academic year 2015-16.
Following the death of three girl students in January, a criminal case was registered and a show cause notice was issued by the university asking as to why the affiliation granted to the institution should not be cancelled.
However because of the show cause notice sent by the university, it had not sent the schedule of counseling to the institution and consequently the name of the institution was not found in the list. Therefore, the current petition was filed, the petitioner added.
The judge said as there were unfilled seats as admitted by the government, no useful purpose will be solved in keeping the institution out of the purview of the counseling schedule.
The judge directed the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR University to send the seat matrix to the Special Commissioner, director of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy and also to include the name of the institution in the counseling schedule. But at the time of admission during the counseling, the institution should inform students about the petition and that their admission was subject to the result of the petition.
