Hyderabad: Nikhil's dad seeks action against doctor over

Police complaint filed against doc suspended by med panel.

Hyderabad: Mr Gowardhan Reddy, the father of techie Nikhil Reddy whose ‘height-increase’ surgery was botched up, has filed a complaint with the police demanding action against senior orthopaedic surgeon Dr Chandra Bhushan who performed the operation.

In the complaint filed with the Saifabad police, Mr Gowardhan Reddy stated that after the investigation report of the TS Medical Council, which ordered suspension of the doctor, action must be taken by the police.

Dr Bhushan is not practising at Global Hospitals after the suspension order issued by the council. In a meeting with Hyderabad police commissioner Mahender Reddy on Saturday, Mr Gowardhan Reddy urged the police to expedite the case.

He had not filed any case against the doctor and had moved the TS Medical Council, which later suspended Dr Bhushan. According to the Medical Council, it can only award punishment and not compensation.

Dr Ananth Mohan Pai, medical superintendent of Global Hospitals, said, “We are not aware of the police complaint. We are not aware of any compensation procedures.”

On Saturday evening, Mr Nikhil Reddy visited the hospital for his check-up with a committee of doctors that had been set up for the purpose, and his recovery process was stated to be good. The committee comprising orthopedic specialists Dr V.S. Reddy, Dr V.B.N. Prasad, Dr B. Babu and Dr Ravindranath, is evaluating his condition and counselling his parents on the rehabilitation process.
