Hyderabad: 2 families donate dead kins' organs
Hyderabad: The heart and lungs of a teen who was declared brain-dead were harvested and sent to Chennai for transplant. D. Saritha, before her death on November 17, had expressed her wish to donate her organs.
On November 14, Saritha, 17, and her brother were going on a two-wheeler to a hospital at Mallapur where their mother Chandrakala was undergoing treatment for dengue. The two-wheeler was hit by an unidentified vehicle near Nacharam petrol bunk and Saritha suffered a severe head injury. She was taken to Yashoda Hospitals where she was declared brain-dead three days later.
Her father, Mr D. Ramesh, said, “Saritha had told us that she wanted her organs donated. We are fulfilling her wish.” Her heart was sent to Fortis Malar Hospital and lungs to Apollo Hospitals in Chennai.
Two kidneys, a liver and two eyes were used on patients in Hyderabad. Also on Saturday, five organs of 38-year-old N. Yadagiri were donated by his family after he was declared brain-dead.
He had suffered serious injuries in an accident on November 12. After his wife gave consent, two kidneys, two eyes and a liver were harvested. The organs are being transplanted into needy patients.
