Family of 3 found dead in Ulundurpet

Police identified the deceased as S Mathew, 43, his wife Chandini, 37 and his father-in-law Samuel, 65.

Chennai: Two days after Chennai police questioned a realtor for his alleged suspicious money dealing, he along with his wife and father-in-law were found dead under a railway bridge at Ulundurpet in Villupuram district on Saturday morning.

Police identified the deceased as S Mathew, 43, his wife Chandini, 37 and his father-in-law Samuel, 65. Police believe the three of them committed suicide after they found it difficult to dodge the police and scores of other people from whom Mathew had collected money promising seats in professional colleges and jobs.

Initially, Villupuram police had no clue about the identity of the deceased.
But an Aadhar card found in a hand bag and a mobile phone helped the police team to trace the identity.

The Aadhar card showed the details of Mathew, a native of Bodinayakanur. A few calls from the number saved in mobile phone found in the hand bag further helped the cops to establish the identity of the deceased.

Preliminary investigation suggests that Mathew, a resident of Red Hills, was summoned by Peerkankaranai police based on a complaint of alleged cheating of Rs 40,000 on November 16. Mathew was asked to appear before the police again on next day, but he preferred not to be present at the station on November 17.

“We conducted enquiry on November 16 after a youth lodged a complaint saying that Mathew had collected Rs 40,000 promising him a job. It was Samuel who promised a settlement next day but they never came back,” the police said.
