Andhra Pradesh Police doubles insurance amount for natural death of cops

Police personnel would get an insurance of Rs 2 lakh by paying Rs 12 per annum.

VIJAYAWADA: The AP police has double the insurance amount for natural death of personnel to Rs 3 lakh from Rs 1.5 lakh, ahead of police commemoration day. DGP Gautam Sawang on Tuesday said that police martyrs’ day would be observed on October 21.

Signing memoranda of understanding with the SBI for the Jeevan Jyoti Bhima and Suraksha Bhima, —the policy will be issued all personnel from Wednesday, Sawang said, “I salute the wonderful services of the police. They will be offered accidental policy up to `40 lakh and natural death policy up to Rs 3 lakh.”

Police personnel would get an insurance of Rs 2 lakh by paying Rs 12 per annum. He said that police personnel are being given with a weekly off in the state which is first of its kind in the country.

Stating that the Police Seva app has been made available with 87 types of services, Sawang claimed that the police cracked a record 306 cases related to temples. He said that 57,270 temples and other religious places across the state have been mapped with geo-tagging and 33 cases have been registered about untoward incidents in temples in which 27 cases were resolved.

The police had identified 54 habitual offenders who are frequently convicted of crimes and arrested 130 history sheeters and 1,196 were bound over. He said that the Disha application has been downloaded by 11 lakh people and had received 79,648 requests through the SOS app, of which 604 calls were acted upon and 122 FIRs registered. He said that 62 zero FIRs were in 2019 which increased to 279 so far in 2020.

As many as 13,229 personnel have been affected by Covid-19 during the past six months and 101 personnel laid down their lives, said Sawang.

He said the rate of cognisable crimes decreased by 18 per cent compared to last year. He said that 185 government officials, including 69 police officials were booked in various cases this year. As many as 86,481 complaints were received under the Spandana programme, of which 63,368 were disposed, FIRs were registered in 19,459 complaints and there were 3,654 complaints pending.
