The IOC is misguiding the local residents through false claims and campaigns, they claimed.

Kochi: Veteran CPM leader V.S. Achuthanandan will inaugurate a people’s rally against the proposed LPG plant at Puthuvype on November 6. Thousands of residents from Puthuvype area will participate in the rally to be organised by the people’s action council, LPG Terminal Virudha Janakeeya Samara Samithi, from Goshree bridge to Rajendra Maidan, said Mr M.B. Jayaghosh, action council chairman.

Prominent personalities, including Kanam Rajendran, Annie Raja, S. Sarma, V.M. Sudheeran, Medha Patkar, Sara Joseph and Bishop Mar Geevarghese Mar Coorilos will join the rally. According to the action council, the report submitted by the expert panel appointed by the state government had failed to show justice to the demands of local residents.

“The expert panel members came for the site visit and conducted the hearing without informing us in advance,” alleged the action council members. According to the representatives of the people’s action council, the project is not suited for a densely populated area like Puthuvype. The IOC is misguiding the local residents through false claims and campaigns, they claimed. The LPG plant which is part of '2,200-crore mega project is aimed at minimising the movement of bulk LPG tankers through the highways. IOC moves bulk LPG from Mangalore to various LPG bottling plants in north Kerala using around 100 bullet trucks every day.
