One-day session on solar commission report on November 9
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet on Thursday decided to convene a special One-Day Session of Assembly on November 9 to table the Solar Commission Report along with action taken report. The Cabinet decided to seek legal opinion from former Supreme Court judge and Kerala High Court chief justice Arajit Pasayat on further action to be taken on the findings of Justice G. Sivarajan Commission. The government had on October 11 announced a slew of decisions based on findings of the commission and the legal opinion obtained from Advocate General and Director General of Prosecution.
It decided to initiate vigilance probe against former chief minister Oommen Chandy, former power minister Aryadan Mohammad and the former’s aides for cheating solar case accused Saritha S. Nair and colluding with her in cheating other customers. The Cabinet had also decided to frame criminal charges against former home minister Thiru-vanchoor Radhakrishnan for shielding Mr Chandy from a criminal probe besides constituting SIT headed by DGP Rajesh Dewan to probe Mr Chandy, Aryadan, former ministers Adoor Prakash and A.P. Anil Kumar, K.C. Venugopal, Jose K. Mani, both MPs and Hibi Eden, MLA, for rape, sexual harassment and outraging modesty of women on the basis of Saritha letter of July 17, 2013.
The government, however, has not yet issued a formal order on the decisions taken in last Cabinet. Sources said with the top UDF leaders including Mr Chandy preparing for a legal battle to challenge Commission findings and the subsequent decisions taken by Cabinet, the government does not want to rush through the proceedings. It is in this backdrop that the government has sought opinion from an eminent jurist of the stature of Arijit Pasayat.
With almost the entire “A” group leaders coming under cloud following Solar Commission findings, the government wants to tighten the noose around the Congress leadership. It is keen to beyond optics in Solar commission report and take fresh legal opinion to make the cases against Congress leaders watertight. Both the ruling and Opposition parties are gearing up to take on each other at the Special Session which is all set to witness some theatrics. The LDF has already mounted an attack saying that tabling of report would bring more embarrassment for Congress, the UDF will use the session to present its side of the story and haul up the government for what it called witch hunting.
