KOZHIKODE: There is no shortage of Good Samaritans for a genuine cause. That was proved when the FBians offered Rs 5 lakh to the Good Samaritans project initiated by district collector N. Prasanth to build homes for the homeless under the Compassionate Kozhikode initiative two weeks ago. Mr Prasanth in his Facebook post explained the plight of an old fisherman with a 30-year-old mentally challenged son sans any home, which elicited instant reactions from the FBians.
Mr Prasanth said the target of the first project was to mobilise Rs 7 lakh of which Rs 3 lakh was already deposited in a joint account formed for the purpose. Mr Prasanth also urged the FBians and other Good Samaritans to deposit the rest of the promised amount as soon as possible and to urge others to meet the target of Rs 7 lakh. Ashraf, the fish vendor, lives in a rented house with his wife and the son who shows aggressive behaviour. He has to change houses often because house owners evict them as the youth breaks the household items and window panes in bouts of violence. A committee has been formed to monitor the construction of the house which is being taken up in cooperation with the Karunardram Kozhikode scheme.
