Markandey Katju dares MNS, says 'I am an Allahabadi Goonda'

The MNS has issued threats to stop the release of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil because it stars Pakistani actor Fawad Khan.

New Delhi: Retired Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju, known for his strong views on several issues, targeted the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Wednesday for threatening to stop the release of Karan Johar’s upcoming film ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’.

In posts on social media, Katju challenged MNS people to ‘come to me’ if they wanted to attack someone, as he had a ‘danda’ waiting for them.

Referring to the MNS as a group of ‘goondas’, Katju said he was an ‘Allahabadi goonda’ who had ‘drunk the water of the Sangam (river)’.

The MNS has issued threats to stop the release of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil because it stars Pakistani actor Fawad Khan. Following much drama, director Karan Johar issued an apology via a video on Wednesday, claiming he would not work with Pakistani actors in future.

Markandey Katju for his part, is no stranger to controversy. He has made contentious remarks against the ban on cow slaughter, and recently landed in trouble for making 'jokes' about Biharis and Bihar, with a sedition case filed against him. The Supreme Court had earlier this week issued summons to Katju for stating that the top court had erred in not sentencing Govindachamy, the convict in the Soumya murder case, to death.
