Students' mite for flood victims
Kochi: Rigved Karun of Class II of St. George English Medium Higher Secondary School, Thalayolaparam bu, the other day handed over something so dear to him to the principal Dr. T.J. George: his piggy bank. It had Rs 1615 in it, which he had saved over a period of time to buy a bicycle but the floods changed his mind, and he gave the entire money to the principal to be handed over to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund. The school collected Rs 11,294 towards the fund, including that of Rigved.
At the distant Oakridge International School, Hyderabad, A 16-year-old Anusha Jain raised more than Rs 4 lakh to help those who have suffered in the Kerala floods. The 11th grade student will be visiting Kerala along with her parents to distribute the money and show her support.
Joel V. Mahesh, Class II student of Viswajyothi CMI Public School, Angamaly, has contributed th savings in his piggybank to school vice-principal Fr Sibin Peryappadan to distributed to the flood affected people.
Meliorism comes as a tribute to flood victims
Kochi: The second edition of Meliorism, the newsletter prepared by the ASAP students of government H.S.S. Edappally, was bought out as a tribute to the victims and survivors of flood. It contained 26 poems by ASAP students based on the theme of flood and the hope of survival. The exercise as taken up as part of the ASAP IT module and the students wrote poems of at least 4 lines in Malayalam on the theme. While some of them shared their experience as the victims who spent their time in relief camps, the others wrote about their days at the camps as volunteers.
Thrissur: A school football coaching camp has begun at Holy Grace Academy CBSE School, Mala in collaboration with Kerala Blasters Football Club Score Line Sports. The FIFA referee and score line chief executive officer Michael Andrews inaugurated the camp. He said the camp aims at the development of football in Kerala as well as moulding professional players. Former Nigerian player and chief score line Coach Moosa Ebrahim told the participants football gives importance to team spirit and discipline. He distributed jerseys to the members in the camp. Expert coaches would train the 30 students in the camp under category 12 and 10 three days a week. Those who clear the primary round will be selected for the next. School chairman Jose Kanampilly, principal Jose Joseph Alumkal and others spoke.
Swachchtha Hi Sewa by 7 Kerala NCC
Kochi: The Swachchtha Hi Sewa programme organised by 7 Kerala Naval Unit NCC was inaugurated and flagged off by Capt. Arupanandha Ghosh, OIC, SFNA, at Naval Base, Kochi on September 15. Almost 200 cadets of 7 Kerala Naval Unit NCC, Ernakulam drawn from Maharajas College, St. Albert's College, Sacred Heart College, SN College, Cherthala, Kendriya Vidhyala No.1, and St. Thomas GHS, Perumanoor participated. A cleanup drive was carried out by the cadets in the walkway at the Kundanoor- Willingdon Island road. Lt. Cdr. Aswanth P, EXO, 7 (K) NU,NCC, ANOs Lt. M. A. Solomon, S Lt. Alson Mart, Third Officer Rose Mary, and staff of NCC unit coordinated the event.
Health and cleanliness week at Sree Narayana
Palakkad: A health awareness and cleanliness drive week was observed at Sree Narayana Public School, Elappully, Palakkad. Palakkad circle inspector M. Gangadharan, inaugurated the event. Principal S. Sripriya in her speech emphasised the importance of cleanliness. Dr. N. Sudhodhanan, academic director and school manager P. Suresh Babu also spoke.
